Eight months later and Vancouver--Kingsway still does not have a properly elected member of parliament sitting
on the government side of the house. Here in the riding, one of the places in Canada David Emerson does his utmost to avoid,
the campaign continues to meet and hear from constituents that remain angry at how David Emerson and Stephen Harper thumbed
their nose at Canadians and make a mockery of our democracy.
Over the summer De-Elect Emerson campaigners continued to hold the fort, albeit at a slightly reduced pace. Volunteers staged a protest at a political BBQ held at the ranch of Conservative Senator Gerry St. Germaine, attended
by the who's-who of the Conservative Party, including that man of all faces, David Emerson. Another protest was held outside the Vancouver--Kingsway Conservatve EDA summer BBQ event where Emerson managed to remain hidden from the bulk of his constituents. Thousands of signatures from riding residents were delivered on giant petitions addressed to Stephen Harper annd David Emerson; neither graced the riding with a reply. Numerous meeting requests made at Emerson's constituency office have still to this day gone unanswered and unacknowledged. Hundreds of information posters have been placed around the riding over the summer; buttons distributed; flyers passed; conversations had and plans made.
Committed volunteers
continued to keep pushing De-Elect David Emerson campaign lawn signs out to neighbourhoods around Vancouver,
and with unflagging determination also replace those vandalized by Conservative Party supporters. One such person, caught red-handed in the act, even threatened
one of our volunteers with physical harm! Perhaps Conservative Party of Canada Vancouver--Kingsway Electoral District Association president,
Marilyn Brown, should keep a tighter rein on her 'people', before we are forced by circumstances to press for charges.
The on-going destruction of De-Elect Emerson Campaign signs might seem like a trivial affair, but not when its been going on for many months and has, for all appearances, the look of an organized attack on our right to free speech.
We are, after all, ordinary and peaceful citizens who are simply exercising our right to freedom of speech, and performing our duty
as citizens to speak up against unjust practices and to make known to the general public violations against our democratic society.
On February 6th of this year, our riding - our friends and neighbours and 46,168 electors - had their rights to a fair, just, democratic election outcome
ripped away by Emerson and Harper just as surely as they'd taken all the votes out back and thrown in the dumpster. Eight months later, the crime
against Canada remains as wrong now as it was on the day we all became aware of it, and its our duty as citizens of this land to stand up for Canada and not
let this happen again.
To that end the De-Elect Emerson Campaign does and will continue for however long Emerson sits on the side of the House of Commons he and Harper chose, instead of the side electors sent him to Ottawa. When next voters go to the polls the De-Elect Campaign will be there to remind voters of the precious value of their votes, and of the contempt for voters and democracy displayed by Emerson and Harper. David Emerson can fully expect that our efforts
will be in high gear and fine form whenever, if ever, he next runs for office, no matter where in Canada that may be.
After all, no one expects Emerson will ever run again in Vancouver--Kingsway, despite any meek claims he has occasionally made to the contrary.
