Democratic Voices speaking out across the country
People from across the country are speaking out in support of Democracy and the constituents of Vancouer-Kingsway
Feb 24, 2006)
The recent appointments of David Emerson and Michael Fortier to Cabinet remind me that the Conservatives are really not that much different than the Liberals. It is a political game they play that excludes the voter from his or her opinion.
We, the voters, should not allow our democratic process to be taken lightly. Crossing the floor into Cabinet undermines the people who allowed Mr. Emerson to represent them.
If Mr. Harper really respects the opinions of Mr. Emerson and wants contributions from city constituencies then why not listen to those opinions in the House of Commons where such debate should occur. Crossing the floor should not be needed for influence.
I would hope that our prime minister would be a champion of our democracy. We shall see how many detours he takes from that path.
