Mailbag

A brief sampling of the reaction received in our mailbox over the past few days...

I've only been able to attend the initial forum and the people's referendum, but I want to thank you for continuing to go forward with all your actions. It might be the same ten or eleven of you in body at all the protests, as Harper claims, but you are representing far more people than yourselves. Everyone in the riding I have spoken with, about this issue, is furious at Emerson, and want to see a byelection occur. Even on a recent trip to Berlin, I found ex-pats talking about the Emerson issue! And I wasn't the person who brought the topic up! The people I spoke with in Berlin were obviously outraged by Emerson's actions. C.V. Vancouver-Kingsway
Keep up the good work, wish I lived down in your area so I could stand with you. D.H., BC
Thank you to all in this riding to keep up the campaign to de-elect Emerson. I would love to have a sign here, in Ontario, as this effects my riding too. What I mean is that democracy and more importantly local democracy is at stake. J.J., Ontario (sign on the way!)
How can the Ethics Commissioner state that there was no inducement for David Emerson to "cross the floor" ( the floor of his living room?) when he immediately received a cabinet post in the Conservative government. If that's not inducement, I don't know what is... I'm still fuming. I am not a member of any political party and until the Emerson affair came up, I wasn't interested in politics but I sure am now. Your stories

The Harper-Emerson affair, now eight weeks on, continues to ignite the outrage and passion of Canadians from across the country. Here are but a few recent examples:

From a Vancouver area senior:

What I believe is this issue is much bigger than just Harper and Emerson, and while they may not hear you, other politicians will. I am a senior and have emailed my MP, signed a petition and sent in a donation. I wholeheartedly believe in this cause.

From Nelson:

A downtown merchant has offered to distribute signs from his establishment.

From Vancouver-Kingsway:

Mr. Harper, I am a resident of Vancouver Kingsway, and I am extremely angry and disappointed by your reaction to the clear sense of resentment expressed by many Vancouver Kingsway constituents on the David Emerson affair.

From Niagra Falls:

As a very interested bystander, outside the riding, I just wanted to write to encourage you folks to keep up the good work. This PM is not acting as if he, in any small way, understands that government in a democracy must be "of the people, by the people, and for the people". People like you need to keep fighting to stop these injustices. If you think people are losing interest, think again. I wish I could be there by your side holding up signs at rallies and putting them on my lawn.

Another from Nelson:

Hi - we're from Nelson, coming to Vancouver for Easter. Are you having any walks or rallies over the Easter weekend? we'd like to join in. Keep fighting the good fight!

Hey Canada, keep letting us know how you feel so that we can make sure politicians know how loud our collective voice is. email info@emersoncampaign.ca - we'll keep your identity confidential unless you request otherwise.
